DOULA INQUIRIES

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional and physical support to expectant mothers before, during, and after childbirth.

How is a Postpartum doula different from a newborn care specialist?

A postpartum doula nurtures the entire family during the transition to life with a new baby. This can include physical, emotional, and educational support for parents as well as care for the baby. A NCS is a trained professional who specializes in caring for newborns, often during the first 12–16 weeks. The focus is on establishing healthy routines and supporting infant development.

What services do you offer?

We offer a range of services, including continuous postpartum support, newborn care support, breastfeeding support, amusement park infant/newborn support, and infant sleep support.

What are the benefits of having a Postpartum doula?

Studies have shown that having a doula present during the 4th trimester can decrease developing postpartum depression/anxiety, help improve getting adequate amount of sleep for the whole family, and being able to enjoy the newborn phase.

COMMON QUESTIONS

what are signs that indicate my newborn is tired?

The best time to put baby down is when you notice that they are quieting down, less active, staring off or losing interest in faces/toys, movements become slower or they “zone out”, if they give a brief eye rubs or pulling at ears/hair, and is starting to have small yawns.

Should I exercise during postpartum?

It depends! If you have not reached 6 weeks postpartum, at least, it is recommended to wait until you are either 6-8 weeks postpartum. You should be taking it easy, enjoying newborn snuggles, and resting before 6 weeks. Talk to your provider about an appropriate timeline to return to your previous work out routine.

How can I manage postpartum pain?

Managing postpartum pain can be done through pain medication, cold or heat therapy, gentle exercise, and getting adequate rest. Talk to your healthcare provider about your pain management options, and be sure to take any medication as directed. Applying a cold pack or warm compress to the affected area, gentle exercise, and getting plenty of rest can also help alleviate pain and promote healing.

How can I support my partner postpartum?

Supporting your partner during postpartum can be done in several ways. Some strategies include helping with household tasks, taking care of baby, offering emotional support, or by encouraging self care.
